Tea Regions And Processing
TW KBZ works with over 3,000 tea farmers across three prime tea-growing regions in southern Shan State. Many have worked with our family for generations and they trust us to support their small businesses through training and market linkages.
Kwan Hal village, Namhsam
We trained farmers in Kwan Hal village in Namhsan township, northern Shan State, in organic farming and harvesting techniques, helping to increase tea production. This tea area is renowned in Myanmar for its green and black tea.
Processing in this region benefits the community through jobs and infrastructure. Shade trees were planted, and we helped develop the roads and water systems.
We work with 3,000 farmers at over 1,300 MSL. We tea flush from March to October. The red, deep, fertile soil enjoys plenty of glorious morning sun and nourishing rain with temperatures of 15–27°C. Our tea bushes produce excellent quality green and black tea.
We have built a Taung Thu Gyi factory for green tea and black orthodox here on 1 ha, close to the farmers’ fields. It is very beautiful with tea fields stretching over rolling mountains around us.
Our factory has been producing good quality black tea for 15 years. In 2022, we started processing green tea too.
We have modern machines that manage specialty grades, precision, control quality, and are easy to use and ensure safety. We have our own generator and can operate 100% off the grid. Women and youth can also operate the machines.
TW KBZ is pleased to bring jobs to people in rural areas, where employment is difficult to find.
The Kwan Hal region is known for producing the highest quality tea in Myanmar, thanks to its high altitude and climate. For food safety, we use a dependable GMP and HACCP system during processing.

Ywangan
We source tea and coffee from Yan Chan Pyin village in Ywangan, southern Shan State. Ywangan means “cool water” as a mountain spring near the village. This area is above 1,500 MSL. In total, we source from 60 ha of coffee and tea.
The tea bushes grow in the sun and Catuai coffee under the shade of avocado, jackfruit and orange trees on the mountain slopes.
Here, we have also established a small Taung Thu Gyi factory where 60 farmers process and sell their green tea leaves for a small fee. At this factory, we process these teas differently with black tea the most oxidized, and green the least.
Our coffee is grown by over 300 mostly Danu ethnic families. It is harvested during October to January, producing 6-10 tons of green coffee.
The coffee is processed by the farmers as naturals and washed at the Village Culture Factory in Mandalay. We have a qualified coffee processor with 10 years of experience who oversees and supports the processing to ensure quality.
Naung Ta Yar Village
In Naung Ta Yar Village, Pin Laung township, southern Shan State, is a green tea factory. Over 80 farmers work hard growing, harvesting and processing the tea.
We only produce green tea from Naung Ta Yar Village. The area is renowned for green tea. The soil brings out the strong, astringent bitter (Phan) flavour.
It is a small factory, with processing following traditional methods of streaming, rolling, drying and packaging for wholesale, producing 30 tons a year. Our factory has deep roots in the area. The ethnic Paoh live high up above 1,200 MSL on plateaus surrounded by mountains.
Taung Thu Gyi green tea is made from the top two leaves and buds. It is our least processed tea. The leaves are heated quickly by steaming, rolling and drying to stop the oxidation and keep the fresh, picked flavour.
We have been processing green tea all my life. My grandfather, my parents, and now us. We know the quality of green tea; it is so good for us, with antioxidants and beneficial polyphenols.
